Forgiveness

My first thought when it comes to someone driving under the influence is zero tolerance.  If the penalty was so severe... for example... your license was revoked for life... I think we wouldn't have such a problem.  To me there is no excuse for putting so many people in danger by driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  And then I read the story.

It was the story in the paper of a dui salt lake city... and a story of forgiveness.  The article covered the tragedy of man whose wife, their unborn child, his 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter were killed by a 17 year old drunk driver... and how this man was touched to forgive.

Everyone makes mistakes.  Everyone does stupid things at some point in their life.  Unfortunately we live in a society that feels punishment equals justice.  There's a belief that if someone wrongs you... they need to be equally wronged.  This eye for an eye, vengeful kind of thinking can not and will not bring peace to your life.  Kindness, forgiveness is the only attitude that will bring peace to all involved in a tragic circumstance.  The man in the article even became friends with the drunk driving teenager and has helped him deal with this tragedy.  This is the example we should all live by.
